COMPLIN is a method for generating linear blending
coefficients for gasoline Complex Model (RFG) blend component
emissions, namely total VOCs, toxics and Nox. These linear
blending coefficients enable the fundamentally non-linear
Complex Model emissions to be represented with minimal errors
and without recursion in a standard gasoline or refinery LP
model, i.e. to be formulated as normal specifications. COMPLIN
covers all the region, season and component variations of the
Complex Model.
COMPLIN embodies the EPA Final version of the Complex model.
The method works by using regression across a series of
approximate gasoline blends that cover all components so as to
generate linear coefficients for total VOC’s, Nox and toxics
that minimize errors. Blend component subsets are selected and
checked for feasibility in a small internal gasoline blending LP
that is generated and run as a sub-routine from the main Excel
spreadsheet. Quality specification ranges are selected by the
user. Thus the method recognizes that the (non emission)
specification levels, notably for RVP, impact the ranges of
blend compositions.
Prospective users of COMPLIN include:
- industry, analytical and research personnel who work with
non-recursive refinery LP models and need a dynamic method
for simulating the Complex Model
- gasoline blenders seeking to optimize batch and real-time
RFG blending.
Availability
COMPLIN is available for license. With LP optimization
extensions, the complete package functions within Excel.
