March, 2010:

EnSys Energy recently completed an update to the Bloomberg / EnSys refining netbacks system (NTBK on a Bloomberg console). The system provides daily netbacks on some 40 crude streams from around the world. The update added US Gulf Coast cracking netbacks for Poseidon and Southern Green Canyon crudes, updated the corresponding Mars netback based on more current assay information, and introduced an ASCI sour crude index netback based on these three component crudes. In addition, the Mayan US Gulf Coast coking netback was updated to reflect a decline in Mayan gravity to 20.5 API.

The EPA announces that the International Maritime Organization (IMO) approved the proposed emission control area (ECA) for US coastal waters. This requirement will mean much lower sulfur standards and significantly improved coastal air quality. The proposal relied heavily on modeling work undertaken by EnSys Energy in conjunction with Navigistics Consulting into the bunker fuel market. The announcement can be found here.

The PDF including the EnSys Energy modeling of bunker demand and the ECA's impact can be found here.

February, 2010:

The World Bank and African Refiners Association (ARA) release the joint ICF International & EnSys Energy final report of the Sub-Saharan Africa Refinery Project.

The project was unique in that it tackled both the refining and health implications of possible fuel legislation for the region. EnSys developed the highly specific regional refining study:
• Worked with the ARA and others to build a highly accurate regional crude production picture
• Developed growth projections for crude supply and product demand
• Focused in the WORLD Model on sub-Saharan Africa, to a refinery by refinery level
• Projected potential for regional Sub-Saharan refineries in a global context.
